Past Simple
Every day my beginner students tell me their difficulties. One of them is understanding the meaning of 'Did' and when they have to use the verb in the past and the auxiliary 'did'. They also think it's difficult to speak in the past. They say they're used to speak in the present and it becomes almost impossible to express themselves with past simple. I generally say that they must face this module as they were learning English again. And it's true! They need to memorize the irregulars forms and new rules.
If you wanna ask a question using the past simple you need to use this construction: Did+noun+verb+time?
Eg. Did you work yesterday morning?
The verb doesn't change its form, but instead of you use 'do' you're gonna use 'did'. 'Did' changes the verb tense. Did you work yesterday morning? (Você trabalhou ontem de manhã?) Yes, I did. (sim, eu trabalhei,) No, I didin't. (Não. eu não trabalhei.) I stayed home watching TV. (eu fiquei em casa assistindo TV.)
